Upstaging is a past-time of mine

It took less than a month, but I made it into Lawrence's local newspaper, Lawrence Journal-World & News.  The beautiful and talented Nicolette was hosting a monoprint demo in the lobby of the Lawrence Arts Center (LAC) and I was on-hand to help out wherever needed.  The demo table quickly became very popular and we had amazing prints rolling off the bed left and right (or back and forth).

On a separate but delicious note, we bottled the Dry-hopped English Pale Ale yesterday.  It will be an anxious two weeks until we get to try this brew that will close out Summer 2010.

Swingtops just begging to be filled.

Here is Stamos assessing every bottle for soundness and quality.  I allow this so long as he stays sober while working.

Taco Bar Lighting Yogi Bear

Last night was my second night alone in the great city of Lawrence. While Logan is lifting heavy boxes full of corn ephemera and telephone cords, I took the liberty to do a little promotion for my classes--- I need students to enroll!!--- hang out with Akiko (the LAC's ceramics/sculpture Artist in Residence www.akikojackson.com), a really cool caterpillar, and of course Yogi Bear!! A few of my peeps from the LAC and I went to a going away party for Sara Gross (the former ceramics/sculpture Artist in Residence www.sarahgrossceramics.com) held by a LAC board member. His house is about 100 yards outside of West Lawrence--in the beautiful Kansas hillside---what a backyard view!! My breath was taken away by the awesome midwest sunset on one side of the evening sky, and a phenomenal lightning storm in the opposite direction. I was able to take a few great photos. oooooh and I have to mention that there was a Taco Bar and FreeState brew. HellsYeah!!

From Whence You Came

Once again I have traveled back into America's sweaty crouch, otherwise known as South Florida, to help my parents with their move.  After a 4AM drive into Kansas City that included London-style fog, a hitchhiking deer, and my lovely locks being licked by the sweet morning dew as my dome hung out the car window @ 60 mph, Nickie and I arrived at MCI Airport in time for me to board.  I am glad she waited an hour and made it home safely.  From my windowseat the plains of Kansas/Missouri looked like the upper canopies of the Amazon Rainforest.

The Jerbinator was all too quick and eager to pick me up.  In return for such a favor, I didn't check a bag.  Had my Afternoon (veggie) Delite by taking an entire Whole Publix Sub straight to the food hole.  Spent the rest of the day packing, stacking, and slacking.  Was able to get a few more boxes into the Lippin-Pod before pickup/dropoff tomorrow.  Finished the evening with a delicious homecooked meal by my wonderful mother.  After dinner was cleared by Jerb and thirty minutes had passed, we swam awhile in their insanely warm pool.

Looking forward to seeing my sister Vanessa tomorrow.

What follows is a short list of things that only happen when in Jerby's presence:

Times Jerby has described the move, the house, the future as "weird" = 19
Times Jerby has said "Piece de reisistance" = 2
Times Jerby has worn ankle-length "night wear" = Ongoing
Times Jerby's had the hiccups after a meal = Every

P.S.  I'll try to post some pictures before I leave, for flippin' sakes!
P.P.S.  This is a blog-off, I challenge Nicolette to post more than I do before I get back to Lawrence!

Next Batch

Things never stop here.  Visited Topeka, KS today to check out Kramer's Ale and Vino Supply.  We decided on attempting an Oatmeal Stout and Pumpkin Ale for the oncoming Fall.  Since there won't be any pumpkins on the shelves or stands for another couple of weeks, we move onward towards oats!  Wilford Brimley eat our farts out

Specialty grains galore.

Roasted Barley

Black Malt

Past Week Recap

We safely made it back across Missouri, delivering the Champagne Jam from Saint Louis to Lawrence.  Thank you Father Lippincott for letting us share a ride, helping to pass the time singing to Swingout Sister and having jumper cables on the ready.  Believe it or not, my car made it all the way home.

It was awesome to see our friend Dani, back from Berlin, and enjoy a vegan brunch together at Cafe Shangri-La. Thank you for putting us up for the night.

Stamos was eagerly awaiting our return.

For dinner, we made Jalapeno Mango Tacos.  Y to the UM, son!

Later that evening, a new batch of beer was brewed up.  English Pale Ale to be dry-hopped later in the week.

BBQ joint across the street from our house.
This one is for Larry Keaty.  We will miss him while he travels down under to plunder the infinite wonders of fine wines from the Aussie's vine.

Tuesday Morning: Thesis Work Purchase Check Arrival!
Friday Morning: Thesis Work on its way to Portland OR!

Visited Pet World and saw some amazing ceiling panel murals by people who know what's up.

Tasted the entire selection of 23rd Street Brewery as part of ongoing research/job pursuit.  You can't buy class like a well-groomed 'stache.

These dudes are hanging out everywhere in our yard.  We collected over 20+ in a glass jar with hopes of mounting X-mas lights inside each shell for the holiday season.

This morning Nickie sliced up a mean green locally grown watermelon!
